I added some content and finalized the basic layout. As more information rolls in we'll update the site, but for now it's officially open for business. Feel free to spread the word.

lets try this again

I posted this on the VFTT site:

Quote:
The historic aspect is probably going to be the best way to preserve the dam. The current dam, as I understand, was built by the CCC in the 1930’s. I’m not sure how well this will fly but maybe there could be a push to try and get the dam on the historic register. If successful, this could add protection to the dam legally as well as help in getting grant money to restore the structure.

Form a friends group, similar to many of the fire towers and other historic sites within the Adirondack Park. Show the DEC, that there is a group of people willing to fund restoration work to the dam as well as provide volunteers. If the DEC sees that there is interest in saving the dam and they don’t have to fully fund and provide all of the staff to save it, it is more likely that there position will change.

Here's another shot of Duck Hole I took Memorial Day weekend. This place is worth saving!

paddling.net??

try google maybe?

We're planning on doing a massive push to all concerned outdoors sites and publications, but that takes time. In the meantime, to avoid duplication (and possibly annoying sites/publications with numerous notifications), stay abreast of updates via email from myself and/or Gary as we coordinate such things.

Added your photos and a link to your duck hole page Gary.

I think it's time to compose an email and get the campaign officially rolling.

I took a nice shower last Friday underneath the dam on my thru hike to Lake Placid!

I too would be willing to volunteer any help in this matter. It truly would be a waste to see such a gem disappear because of a mere lack of funds/concern.

Hi Folks!
Just a quick update...
I could write a book on the stuff that's happened since I posted last, but I'll just tell you that Chris Knight, the news director for WNBZ in Saranac Lake contacted us through www.saveduckhole.com and he asked to interview me. He is using our interview for his radio show tomorrow (North Country Public Radio) tomorrow morning during their 8 o'clock news hour. He also is writing an article for Adirondack Explorer on the subject. I'm not sure what his position is on the subject, but he emailed me tonight to let me know that an audio version of his article will be broadcast, and a written version will be on the website.
If you get North Country Public Radio, listen in tomorrow, 7/29/05, and let me know what is said. Not knowing Chris's position, I'm not sure how things will go, but I hope it will be positive.
North Country Public Radio

Congratualations Gary!

We'll hope good things come out of this. If nothing else, it sure will get the word out to more people.

I think it's useless. Any funds that might have been available are being used to Dredge Marcy Dam so it will be "forever wild".
