Question Cascade & Porter

Is this territory private or public? Is it acceptable to overnight below the Cascade Summit?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

The rules in the High Peaks are no camping above 3500 feet except in designated areas (only a few exist), and that's all-year-round. Absolutely no camping above 4,000 feet anywhere (fragile vegetation).

Most people do Cascade and Porter as an 'easy' dayhike from route 73. If you approach them from The Garden (from the East, John's Brook side of Porter) there are areas close to the trail you could camp at legally. I believe the JBL side has designated spots, but there are several camping areas and lean-tos to choose from along those trails.

Thank you for response...

We made our first successful winter ascent of a 46r yesterday afternoon. We decided not to overnight at the Cascade/Porter junction based on weather reporting for the evening. Thanks again, look forward to your input in the future.
