Baldhead Mtn - 12/21/16

We hiked Baldhead Mtn on 12/21/16 from Tucker Rd. We climbed the mountain from the south side, there are many open spots on the way up with nice southerly views toward Hadley and Roundtop. There are also good views from openings around the summit. I really like the view north toward Moose, Crane, and Gore. We did not make the trek over to Moose. We used micro spikes since there was not enough snow for snowshoes, but that has probably changed by now. The road was plowed wide enough for us to safely park along the shoulder.

Nice hike!

The view is pretty cool from up there.

A good bushwhack peak.

Decided to attempt this hike today as it's been on my list for awhile now. Found a spot that looked like a good entry point and pulled to the side of the road. Got too close to the plowed snow bank and the trunk sank a foot into the ditch. Had to walk to a neighboring house and ask for a tow. Very nice older gentleman came out with his farm tractor in 5* weather and pulled me out!
That was as far as the trip went.
I'm going to give another try and likely bring snowshoes as the snow pack is pretty tough this time of year. And I promised the family a home baked pie as a thank you for their hospitality.

One of my neighbors...
Big white house up on a hill?
Old horse ranch down the hill?
Both have tractors.

Big white farm house on the hill, Todd was his first name. Exceptionally nice people and very gracious with their hospitality on such a cold morning.
Be sure to relay my thanks again if you speak with them!

I will...they're great people! I had the pleasure of pulling him out of a ditch once many years ago. He pulled over a little too far to let me by on that same road and became stuck in deep snow.
