Note that Sykes Camp is in a federal wilderness area (the Ventana Wilderness).
I think it is a perfect example of why minimum impact ethics (such as LNT) are so important. When hundreds or thousands of people are failing to adhere to such an ethic, it creates some major problems...
Sadly, some of those images (particularly the ones showing human waste/toilet paper, as well as the ones showing abandoned gear) look pretty similar to scenes I've stumbled across in the Adirondacks.
