This whole thread reminds me of my college days - I had joined a fraternity, and made the mistake of calling it a 'frat' - the others quickly reminded me "You wouldn't call your mother a mutt, or your country a (well you get the picture), so don't call your fraternity a frat". Or - in this context, don't call your Adirondacks the 'dacks! Ah yes, I can hear the senior brothers now...

Thank you sir may I have another!

1) I find it almost ridiculous to say nicknaming something is akin to conquering it.

2) I find it funny that we must pronounce the whole word in both writing and speech because it's "beautiful"

3) I realize why we are unable to solve basic problems in this country and on planet earth, people simply spend too much time worrying about the most nonsensical things.

Why can't we all just get along? (I'd burn the "dacks" chair, too)

I refer to the Adirondack's, or the park in general as the dacks, its just easier to say in passing. Mostly I refer to it as the adk, but I guess thats from the ADK stickers/clib... To me it isn't any offense, it's just the location or the region. However i'm from Central New York, so I absolutely hate the word UPSTATE NY, Upstate to me is Watertown, however its refered from everyone in NYC and Albany that isn't RICH as the Syracuse to Rochester to Buffalo Area even for that matter and everyone north of them.
Even when all of use most are the same lattitude. Someday I hope NYC gets removed and stops sucking all my 60%+ of my taxes for the state.

I think DuctTape is just trying to antagonise Wildriver.

I have to admit however, usually daks to me reminds me of the South/North Dakota when I visit my cousins in Wyoming. Often we have gone off there.

As a Buffalo native, I have never used the term "Upstate New York". That is a term that the tax-sucking polititians from the city use (NYC & Long Is.)...I think. Buffalo is Western NY, and the da...... I mean ADIRONDACKS is either simply "the Adirondacks", or to people who have no idea where that is, "Northern New York". (almost there)

I used to say I was from Central NY, until I got sick of everyone saying how nice it must be to live by Central Park. It's amazing how many people in this country don't know there's an entire state north of NYC.

As for the taxes thing, it's funny: everybody from "upstate" says they fund NYC, and everybody from NYC says they fund the rest of the state. So who's right? (When answering, please specify whether you are from NYC or upstate )

I'M FROM WESTERN NEW YORK (state)!! Since most of the population is in NYC, most of the tax $ goes there. And since most of the politicos are biased toward NYC, too much of my tax revenue goes to fund social programs and pork projects in NYC. Heck, even the cheap hydro-electric power from Niagara Falls goes to NYC! I want to secede! (how we doing?)

102!

I signed on a little late today.

Thank you all for your support for the rush to 100. It was fun. So now lets see if we can hit 200.

I'll start out with a big insult and you all can join in with what feels good for you if your a liberal or what you know is right if your a conservative.

I consider anything above New York City Upsate New York and when global warming raises the oceans level and floods all of Down State the tax sucking issue will go away.

As Johnny Storm would say..."Flame On!"
