Second Pond - Siamese Ponds Wilderness - 1/20/13

The Second Pond ski trail is another of the nice ski trails in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.

I got the chance to ski it today and conditions were perfect with 4" of snow on top of the consolidated base. The trail has some nice ups and downs and is a good intermediate trail. It's 2.7 miles to the pond.

There is also a new red marked trail that intersects the yellow Second Pond trail .8 miles from the trailhead. It looks new and the flagging from the route marking is still on the trees. Has anyone been on it, or know where it goes?

Another excellent trail in that area. How was the access road and parking? It was a little tight the last time I skied there. What direction was the new trail headed off in? I don't recall seeing a new trail in the area in the UMP. I would not be surprised considering the trail development that has happened there in the past few years. Thanks for posting.

I was up there in mid-Oct and didn't see any flagging or new trail work. Maybe it was hunters? Great location! I especially love the view of the west slope of Gore Mt.

Something I heard at the Seminar has me thinking it goes to the Vly along Black Mtn Brk and no further.

How were the views from HOL Mtn?

I saw Steve Ovitt at Gore today. He said the flagging and red disks are not a trail. I didn't get a chance to clarify. We were working a race. I think he said something about some people being lost in there, and the flagging was marking the spot where they were. I don't know why the disks though. He said there were only 2 or three disks going in the northerly direction towards Black Mountain Brook.

The road had a couple inches of fresh snow on it that had not been plowed, but we had all wheel drive and didn't have a problem getting there. No other cars were there, although someone came and did a short snowshoe and left before we got back out. The parking can hold maybe 4 cars.
