![]() anybody got some great sites ?
here's the site for all the guages in NY it gives the real time flow data in C.F.S. (cubic feet per second) if your not too familiar with what the cfs values mean to you, the fishing, or the river - just check out the website a couple times at different levels and compare to your river. you'll learn pretty quickly, and then just by checking out the website, know the conditions. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/rt i find the site to be invaluable for fishing.

here is the best all around site for flyfishing i've found.
use the menu on the left. warning : this website is humonongus, it would probably take someone months to completely explore all the features of it. http://flyanglersonline.com/

this is the DEC stocking site for last year. not nearly as detailed or as nice as the ALS site, but it is nice to have more current info as well.

![]() Muddler, heheh, glad you're sticking to policy.... Now what did you do with those TPS reports?? (had to throw in another movie reference after you noticed the '3PO ref ![]() Oh yeah, and the topic right? hehe, I love the solunar tables too. If I've been having crummy luck, and just been fishing whenever... I try to aim for a period on the table (or on my GPSr which has the same times listed) and usually get some improvement. Anyhow, quick google search turned up an answer for somebody's "google answers" question about solunar tables, lotsa good info in one compact place: Answers --> 'Solunar Calculations' |

"office space" - another great movie!
I like using the weather/lunar tables to blame my inept fishing abilities on - "must be that the moon isn't in the right phase" or "the barometric pressure is keeping them down today", blah, blah, blah........ Muddy

I know Global Flyfisher was mentioned but I wanted to plug the streamer section, not just because I've got a lot of flies in there

Since I got into fly fishing.... I've been a fiend for fly fishing info. Krikes, there's a lifetime of info to learn -- none-the-less applying it! Anyways, it's resulted in many an hour googling. Figured I'd share a couple of the better links that I've collected (that aren't already covered here, yikes I swear half the fly fishing pages on the entire net are on FAOL!)...
Fly Tying: Troutflies.com (good step-by-steps for a handful of all-around trout flies) Flies.Hipwader.com (easily searchable/browsable pattern database, helped me identify a couple mystery flies i have, and look up some materials to try to imitate others) Entomology Troutnut.com (lots of sweet bug pictures, mostly from the midwest and the catskills) Stone Flies of the US May Flies of the US (distribution of species across the states by the USGS) |

i had posted this a while ago, but in a different thread, but i think it should go here.
http://www.jprossflyrods.com/story.php this place is awesome. i personally try to support local businesses whenever possible. (the shop is right in utica, ny, 20 min from me) this place makes it very easy to do so. i went there last year to buy my brother an X-mas present. i got a quality, custom engraved, guaranteed for life, flyrod -- for ~ $100 ! i've been flyfishing for about 5 years. i like his rod better than my $250 St. croix. i'll definitely be going there to get my next rod. i don't even know how they make any money. plus - they're quick - i picked up the rod the next day. My brother says it's the best gift he ever got in his life.

I'll give a shout for the rising trout outfitters too! First heard of 'em from sacco in other threads (Thanks man)
![]() ![]() I doubt I personally have the skill to really take advantage of a super-duper-well-made fly rod, but.... I'm dying to buy a rod from them, I'd love to have one that was made by a craftsperson. I kind of have a feeling it'd be like anything else made to order ![]() Anyways, just wanted to second the recommendation for that shop!! |
