Plan the Hunt and Hunt the Plan...

Back in April, 2017 I hiked and scouted out "Smokey Mountain" (an alias) for this falls hunting season and formulated my hunting plan. I set out 3 trail cameras to watch over some deer bedding areas, blackberry meadows, and mountain ridges. I checked the SD cards in the cameras on Monday July 10, 2017. One camera was destroyed by something... I'm assuming something non-human due to it's remote location. Another camera was moved off center by a black bears snout (picture evidence below), and the third camera tagged an early 6+ point velvet racked buck. All three cameras had additional deer activity on them as well. I'm still planning this years hunt and part of it includes me sleeping on the top side of Old "Smokey Mountain" for a night or two...

Bio: That's going to be a really nice buck come fall and its early yet. You even might get a shot at a bear if you're so inclined. Pics look great. Hope your fall hunt works out well.

I love all your adventures and can't wait to see the video for this one! Maybe you'll spot the beast who destroyed your game cam...

Bioguide - Looks like you're going to need some help hauling out all that big game this fall. Best of luck in your hunt & harvest when the time comes.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

EC, I just might be inclined to take a bear... providing I see one.

If the hunt works out the hauling will be all downhill.

Dang, my day dreaming never ends...

Nice pics Bio!! The images on the Cabela cam look nice and sharp. Good looking buck for June 20th. He is just starting to make the bend in his beams back then. Very nice. That bear looks real good on the ridge to. You are getting us pumped up for sure. Time to go ride the bike to get ready for hiking the ridges. Thanks for sharing as always.

Hi Bio, curious which cabelas trail cam you used. They have a sale on now and I might want to get the one you used for those nice clear pics!

Thanks.

We headed back for an overnight Monday to check on the trail cameras and to pick out a couple of trees for the portable tree stand. We also visited the two hemlocks near the summit that I plan to hang my hammock between the night before opening day of muzzle loading. These photos are from July 11 - Sept 4th taken by two different trail cams and sorted by date. It appears to me that there are 3 different bucks sauntering about; an 8, 6, and 4 pointer. I didn't include any doe pics but there are several. The black bear is still ambling around as well.

Looks like you had a successful trip and now you have 3 bucks on camera. If that doesn't get the juices flowing I don't know what would. Hope the season goes well.

Restless nights seem to be pretty normal nowadays but new juices of excitement and anticipation have been added to my nightly slumber time which I do savor.

Methinks all this preparation is the payoff. I mean where else is there a better place to be but in the woods with a focus on the woods and what it has to provide and to sharpen that focus, to hone one's consciousness to being one with said woods and the exclusion of all else. An ephemeral enchantment.

I agree fully and the payoff is continuous.
