Live bait in Lake Placi

for years i remember no minnows were allowed to be used in Lake Placid. Looking into the special rule and regulations page it no longer says use of fish as bait prohibited. Is there anyone out here in the DEC that can shed light on this info? I wandered down to the docks after work tonight and saw schools of nice 15-20 inch Lake Whitefish around the lights feeding on bugs. No wonder the local guides have been pulling 22 lbs lakers out of there. Plenty of food for them to eat.

Ryan: We have luck using silver swedish pimples for the whitefish. Its sometimes surprising how large a jig they will hit with their small mouths. We stumbled onto this when we started catching them while jigging for lakers. Of course, I'd much prefer them on the fly if they are cooperative.

I went out again tonight and once again schools of whitefish some nice ones over 20" too. even with fly rod nothing was interested in the flys i presented. Thinking of taking some time Monday to fish the lake. Got to be between kiddos school as i drop her off at 830 and have to get her by 2:00. Wish i didnt rip the cord out of my transducer on my kayak. sure helps in placid to know what depth they are at. Should still be able to sight fish some lakers if its calm enough.
