RIP Howie

I had to put my beagle down last Thursday. He was quickly deteriorating due to liver problems. Howie was a shelter dog that I have had for over 10 years. He was a typical beagle ... following his nose wherever it lead. He was my constant hiking companion for all those years. He has climbed probably at least a hundred different mountains and hills in the Catskills and Adirondacks. And he was hiking right up to almost the end. His last hike was a small, obscure peak in the northern Catskills (Mt. Hayden).

I will always remember him as the happy little hiking hound.

I think we may have met Howie on a hike years ago. Sorry to hear about his passing. It is so hard to lose a furry friend.

You made a good pair: Beagles are fun but they need exercise - you sure gave him that! He was a lucky dog.

Sorry Chris. I know how deep it hurts.
