Foundation accepting requests for grants

ADKHighpeaks Foundation is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI) based upon our mission as a 501(3)c not for profit charitable corporation. Your overwhelming support last year enabled the Foundation to extend a $5,000 grant to the Keene Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. to purchase equipment for their wilderness rescue team.

We believe that during these current tough economic conditions and budget cuts the need for funding within the scope of our Mission Statement is greater than ever. This year we have already received letters of inquiry and request for assistance from a few worthwhile organizations. We would like to hear about other organizations that may benefit from the benevolence of the internet community (ADKForums and ADKHighpeaks Forums) that provide the majority of our support.

To be considered we respectfully request that the Letters of Inquiry meet the following guidelines:
  • They must be limited in scope to funding wilderness zone and environmental protection, safe recreation, public education and biological research. As outlined in our Mission statement.
  • Funding request must be submitted by an established non profit group or institution.
  • Must be within or related to the New York Forest Preserve in the state of New York in either the Adirondack or Catskill mountain regions.

Letters of Inquiry must include;
  1. The purpose of the project
  2. Summarize the goal(s) of the project.
  3. The specific costs relate to the project.
  4. Other funding sources if applicable.
  5. Expected time line for completion of the project or phase.
  6. Must be submitted in writing to the email address below by July 15, 2009
Our current cap for funding requests is $5,000

We are reaching out to you the members of the forums since without your participation and support none of this would be possible.

Please submit LOI’s to:
The Executive Board of the ADKHighpeaks Foundation at grants@adkhighpeaks.com

All request must be made be email as time is of the essence. Verbal requests and those not meeting the guidelines above will not be considered.

Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm.

Jack Coleman
Treasurer ADKHighpeaks Foundation

Is the Foundation sending out RFPs (Requests for Proposals) to the various non-profits within the Adirondack Park? Or is the Foundation relying solely upon word of mouth, or if a forum member alerts the non-profit of their choice? Or is the announcement on the forums the only publication of the RFPs??

In an attempt to be clear, We know that there are a lot of groups or institutions that could really use some support right now.
Since the majority of the money raised for the Keene Valley Fire Dept. came from the members of the two forums we felt it was a good idea to ask for your help in selecting an organization that could use some help.
Again this is about Raising and Distributing funds to groups that have the members support and falls in line with our purpose of being a charitable institution.
If you know of any groups that meet the criteria above please have them send in the information. There is a lot of need for some pretty great causes and we would like to hear from them.
Thanks

Several of us have reached out to a few different "known" groups that we think would have need and several are in the process of submitting LOI. Have we sent out a blanket RFP? No, as Jack states, we not at that point yet. We're just reaching out to the membership to see if you guys might also have contacts. We just need them all in by July 15, then we will "select" (as a group) the 2 that we would like to support. I believe we can find an adequate selection within our own community.

Granted, it might not be the perfect process, but it is a work in process.

On another note. Kevin actually brought up a decent point in another thread that I though was worth mentioning here.

That is quite correct. For example; You can have a project by a group that would provide watershed clean-up along a paddling route that may be estimated to cost $10,000. Obviously, that is beyond our $5000 cap. Just have the group write into the LOI request a portioned amount of the total.

For example - Request up to 50% funding ($5000) of the total project cost.

Our gifts are that, Gift's....... and we fully understand that a group, or particular project might have many sponsors or other resources to meet their goals.

bump.....

We have 2 requests in, both very worthy projects. Both are in the High Peaks, or Saranac Lake area. We would VERY MUCH like to consider something OUTSIDE THAT AREA as well.

You guys are the experts on that area. PLEASE help us find a worthy cause to possibly support.

Thanks.
