Interesting paper on ice-in/ice-out dates

http://www.uvm.edu/giee/pubpdfs/Beie...tic_Change.pdf

Not at all what I expected. In summary, ice-out dates in the Adirondacks are about the same as they've always been while ice-in dates are getting later and later, consistent with observed temperature rise. The best predictors of ice out are March and April min temperature followed by snow cover.

The study area was the Huntington Wild Forest and covers 1975 to 2007.

Wow! Could`ve fooled me..guess ,its the law of averages that creates these final statistics. Even though ,this year has been a very ,very cold winter ,with ice cakes of no less than 24"`s on most Adk lakes, I still think VT`s findings are indeed right!..in the long run we are still above average in temperature ,believe it or not.

A handful of waters within a small study area for a little more than three decades...not long when you are talking weather/climate trends/changes.
