Debar Mountain Wild Forest Public Comments Please Help!!

The DEC is gathering public comments for development of the Debar Mountain Wild Forest's UMP. At stake is a great camp on the shores of spectacular Debar Pond. The town of Duane has been agitating for years that this property be conveyed to private ownership in the age old name of economic development. However, this area is one of the most popular and beautiful locations in northern Franklin County. It is public land and no such conveyance to private hands should be tolerated. (The building should be razed, imo.) Please submit comments encouraging the state to maintain public ownership of this property.

This area also includes Madawaska Pond whose access has also been under dispute.

The first of the two public meetings planned for prior to the drafting of the plan is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Duane fire station on county Route 26. The second is set for Wednesday, March 1, at the Franklin Town Hall on state Route 3 in Vermonville. Both sessions will begin at 6 p.m.
