"OUT OF STATE" Firewood

Hello all... I was in my local big box home center the other day and I noticed that they were selling bundles of firewood and small, flat sheets, if you will- of kindling. Both items had a sticker on them that read something like "New York State certified- parasite free" wood, as if it is OK to transport into NY State. I would never do that, but was wondering, isn't ALL out of state firewood (or wood that is from more than 50 miles away) banned in New York...regardless of what the labels might read??

Many thanks for your time and replies.

Is the wood heat treated? If so, it can be imported per the DEC regulations:

"Only firewood labeled as meeting New York's heat treatment standards to kill pests (kiln-dried) may be transported into the state and further than 50 miles from the firewood's source. Acceptable firewood heat treatment must raise the core temperature of the firewood to 71 degrees C, or 160 degrees F, and hold it there for at least 75 minutes. Most "kiln-drying" processes that reduce the moisture content to less than 18% achieve this sterilization standard."

Packaged (bundled) firewood is not necessarily heat treated. Look for a certificate in bundled, store bought wood.

Did the label say "Bundle of Warmth" on it? If so this wood is USDA approved kiln dried and I know they put some flat sheets of starter wood in with the firewood. This company is from the Southern Tier and is located in Salamanca, NY on the Rez. This wood is good quality. Can be shipped anywhere.
