2-3 Day Backpacking Suggestions

Me and a group of friends are looking to go backpacking. We have experience with the high peaks but only 1 day trips. That being said any suggestions for a 2 or 3 day backpacking trip?

Long Lake -- Newcomb Lake would make a good 3 day outing, assuming you have a couple cars. Same with Long Lake -- Averyville although the car shuttle for that would be considerably longer.

Hike in to Flowed Lands/Lake Colden from Upper Works and setup a base camp and climb some peaks, or move camp and climb peaks.

Marcy Dam is another popular base camp option.

Are you looking for a 2-3 day all-backpacking trip or a back-pack to base camp and then hike? Looking for a loop or point-to-point?

There are plenty of opportunities for all three.

Section hiking the NPT offers 2-3 day point-to-point back-packing.

There are several 2-3 day loops (though I am still learning these). There is a 50-mile loop around Cranberry Lake so depending on your speed that can be 3-5 days.

If you have not done the Dix range yet that is a great way to start back-packing to base camp, spend 2 days doing the peaks and then back-pack out. Going in to Panther Gorge or coming from the Garden parking lot (Keene Valley) to the areas around JBL also offers base-camp and then peak hiking.
