Pharaoh Mountain Loop 4/7/2018

Been a while since I've posted a trip report - but not for lack of adventures

Today was a good day to get out and enjoy a beautiful day in the fresh snow. Pharaoh Mountain has been on my list for a long time so I decided to make a loop of it. Hit the Crane Pond trailhead a little before 8. Trails had 3 fresh inches of snow that frequently hid sheets of ice. Was surprised how little snow the area had.

I traveled the loop clockwise making stops at Crane Pond, Oxshoe Pond, Crab Pond and Pharaoh Lake. Then I climbed over Pharaoh Mountain on the way out.

Made it out before 2 and only saw a single group just before getting back to the TH. Overall a great day in the woods and some much needed mountain time.

Wow! Cool route.

Did you need any kind of traction aids? We've hiked Crane Pond Rd. late in the season and it's always been very icy. Maybe the fresh snow helped?

Thanks. Needed to find a creative way to get a few extra miles in.

Used spikes all day. Snow helped with traction a lot on the way in. once things warmed up a little the ice became a minor problem but was manageable. Road is rather icy under the snow!

Beautiful photos-remind me of the days when I use to use a 620 box camera.

Great pictures! My wife and I were just there last weekend (minus Pharoh Mountain but on my list!).

Pharaoh Lake looks calm and peaceful- the polar opposite of what it's often like in the summer. Funny enough, for all of the time I've spent camped out on Pharaoh Lake, I've never made it back there yet in the winter.
