Jessup River Road to Sled Harbor parking lot...

on International Paper company lands -

access to West Canada Lakes Wilderness and Pillsbury Mountain...

I know the area closes to the public in December -

but does anyone know if these dirt roads are maintained (snow is plowed) through the end of November?

Me and a friend are a little concerned to do a 4 day hike in late November, with the possibility of hiking out and finding our cars stuck because of unplowed snow!

I believe that once the snow falls those roads are maintained as snowmobile trails.

anybody else?

I'd REALLY like to do this West Canada Lakes loop backpacking trip, but really WOULD NOT like to come out and find my car trapped 7 miles in on a dirt road for the winter!!!

I was in there a couple of weeks ago and I agree with fvrwld. It's a seasonal road. There are snowmobile trail markers which means it's definitely not plowed after the 30th of November. The road closes December 1st. Call the forest ranger for that area to get specifics on plowing/not plowing for the remainder of November. If I had to guess, I would say not plowed.

Depending on whats being logged and when, IP will plow portions. The snowmobile use (and there is alot) keeps the road hardpacked most of the winter. 4X4 will usually get you easily into sled harbor. I would not recommend a car even with chains. Local snowmobile clubs also maintain the trails in that area, but I'm not sure about Military Rd itself. Good news is there's always plenty of wingnuts with tow chains and twelve-packs willing to help out, this wingnut included
