Question Five Ponds Loop questions

Looking at the Five Ponds Loop in late July. Is there a permitting system or is it first come first served at the trail head for parking? Also, are there any bear canister requirements in that area. Will simply hang food unless there is a regulation otherwise.

First come, first serve for campsites. Make sure you understand and follow the 150 foot rule. No bear canister requirement for that area, so hang your food and keep your campsite clean.

There's a few loops in that area- Are you just doing the High Falls loop, or are you planning to head West to visit the Five Ponds themselves? Or are you looking at the full Cranberry Lake 50?

Both the Cranberry Lake 50 and the High Falls loop receive moderate levels of use, and can get a little bit busy on weekends when the weather is nice. The Five Ponds area itself (Big Shallow, Little Shallow, Wolf Pond) tends to stay pretty quiet.

Be aware that the High Falls Truck Trail nearly always has a couple of sections of epic flooding, thanks to the beavers. Waist deep water is not unheard of. Things will be fairly dry by late July but I'd still plan for some wet and muddy sections.

just out there today...

There's a party going on in Wanakena Friday, July 20th....

As part of the local summer concert series VICTORY SOUL ORCHESTRA will be performing live in the Gazebo in the center of the hamlet. The show is free and open to all... and the tunes will be tight!

check out a recent thread on the "Wanakena Picnic Area": http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?p=266615
