  • KML/KMZ ADK hiking trail file

Does anyone know if there is a KML, KMZ, or Shape file avaialbe for Adirondack trails? I see a layer available on the SLIM Mapper program but would like to have a file to view in Google Earth and perhaps ARC GIS. I've looked on the DEC web site and done general searches but I'm not coming up with a file for hiking trails. They have snowmobile trails but not one for hiking trails.

NYS GIS Clearinghouse has a shape file for "DEC Roads and Trails":

The DEC used to offer it in KML/KMZ format (I probably have a copy of it somewhere) but, like you said, it's no longer found on their site: http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/103457.html

FWIW, the DEC's trail data for the High Peaks region is less than accurate. For the High Peaks area, Waymarked Trails is better (it's based on OpenStreetMap and allows you to download any trail in GPX format). https://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/#....1497!-73.8732

Outside of the High Peaks area, OpenStreetMap becomes sketchier for trails and the NYS/DEC shape file becomes your best bet.
    Looking for views!
