    Update: Loon Lake Mountain included in the Fire Tower Challenge

    Effective November 2, 2011 Loon Lake Mountain in the northern Adirondacks is included in the Fire Tower Challenge and counts toward the 18 Adirondack fire towers. If you have a brochure that does not list this fire tower, please manually add it to the list along with the date of your climb in order to receive credit for this tower. For more information contact contact: wilderness@adk-gfs.org

      If you climbed it before November 2, 2011, but after the easement was open to the public, does it still count?

          November 2, 2011 is the date the ADK Glens Falls-Saratoga (keepers of the FTC) formerly added Loon Lake Mt. to the FTC.

            No updates on the Loon Lake Mountain tower restoration. We are currently taking inventory of work being done by all the fire tower friends groups.

              Loon Lake Mountain Trail and Adjacent Lands Temporarily Closed

              DEC reports:

              "Loon Lake Mountain Trail and Adjacent Lands Temporarily Closed

              Lyme Adirondack Forest Company, the private landowner of the Kushaqua Tract Conservation Easement, is conducting a timber harvest in the area of the Loon Lake Mountain Trail in accordance with their rights to forest management.

              DEC has closed public use of the trail and the easement lands in the area around the trail for public safety purposes until timber harvesting operations are completed on December 30, 2016.

              Please contact the DEC Ray Brook Office at 518-897-1291 for questions regarding this temporary closure."
