Trout streams close to Rollins Campground

Greetings from Buffalo, N.Y. I am new to the Forum. I am planning a trip by myself to Rollins Campground in the spring and was wondering if anyone can advise me on trout streams within 1/2 hour to 40 minutes drive. The head waters of the St. Regis at St. Regis Falls looks within driving distance. Anything in Harrietstown. I am a fly fisherman. Thank you in advance.

I am doing my scouting on line. Right now The upper Saranac looks the closest. I am a little confused as to whether there are warm water species coming out of the town of Saranac or is it s trout fishery. Slow water? Fast water?

Depends where you are. That's about as specific as you're going to get on here. If you're after something specific, you should hook up with a guide service. Welcome abord, and make sure to put up some pics, we love fish porn!

Audio...upstream of Franklin Falls Pond along River Rd. is trout water. Along Silver Lake Rd. to the confluence with the North Branch is good. This is big sometimes heavy water. I've never bothered much with the Main Branch. I have heard there is good trout water on it. The North Branch is smaller, quieter. Many small streams in the area. I wouldn't bother with the St. Regis.

That's not anymore than you'd read in a book somewhere.

Thank you gman. I have my ponds picked out but I wanted to do some small stream fly fishing also. If anyone ever wants to know good trout water in far western N.Y. just ask.

I fish the Wiscoy quite a bit gman. All wild browns. The kind that you have to stalk and cast to carefully. Ten casts then all of a sudden a quick hit. If you blink it's over. I figure I'll try my luck close to Rollins Camp Ground while I'm up there.
