  • Fall Lake Stream - Piseco

Paddled this stream on Saturday 9/5 ... perfect day for a paddle trip. There is a large beaver dam just upstream from the normal put-in so avoid that and carry your boat(s) to the left, following a short trail that brings up upstream of the dam and enter the water there. Water level is high because of the beaver dam. After passing through the first small lake you'll soon come to another large beaver dam, maybe 4' high. Once again, thanks to the industrious beavers, the water level is very high ... highest we've ever seen in our many paddles along this stream.

We encountered very few people on a beautiful day ... so most of the time we had the stream to ourselves. Water was like glass much of the time, the reflections on the water absolutely stunning. Saw two herons, some ducks, a hawk circling high overhead, and lastly ... a porcupine swimming across the stream. That was a first for us.

On our way home we encountered a turkey strutting along the center line on Rt. 8, occasionally pecking at whatever it could find in the cracks in the center of the highway. Another first for us. Saw two other flocks of turkeys along Rt. 10 later on (one flock near Arietta had about 10 birds in it).

Sounds really nice maybe we'll try this tomorrow. A couple of questions... How far are the carries? How far is the first paddle? We usually don't do any carries at all but would be able to do very short ones.

From the small parking area to the put in it's about 50 yards tops. That's the only "carry" other than hauling your boat over the large beaver dam if you want to go further upstream. Maybe 45-60 minutes of paddling to the beaver dam.
