Is there a summit marker on Phelps mountain?

Like a sign or cairn? Nope.

If you were there on Sunday, we might've crossed paths. I met someone on the summit who asked the same question.

I typically tag the large boulder (western end) and then move on to the open ledge (eastern end). USGS Topo says there's a benchmark on the ledge but I've never bothered to locate it. (I noticed a drill-hole. Could've once contained a survey-bolt or one of the anchors for a triangulation station.)

The unmarked trail leading into the woods, north of the ledge, wanders around aimlessly. Probably created by hikers looking for a sign (or a place to poop).

I am quite sure there was never more than a drill hole that held a flag on the summit. Thus no missing benchmark.

And I will repeat what I have said elsewhere, "These are bench marks and not "summit markers" and therefore not every summit has one.

Thank you!

Thank you, very much! I was there several years ago, and went into the woods to find a benchmark (not to poop). I guess that means I made it!

Thanks again!

Hard to know where the summit is on Phelps. I tagged every high ground hoping I did reach a summit somewhere.
