Jazz ?
Just an observation … as an idiom, Jazz does not seem to get much mention among Adirondack enthusiasts. By my count the Miles Davis album– Kind of Blue - is the only Jazz album to make a list.

I see Joni Mitchell out there too, she definitely has a lot of jazz influence in her music. Diana Krall's "Live in Paris" came close to making my top ten.

My original statements about them are positively validated. Perry Ferrell is truly insane, in all the right ways. He had the audience eating out of his musical hands. If the Pied Piper were ever incarnate, he'd be Perry Ferrell. Watching and listening to the wild man that is Stephen Perkins was a nothing short of pure joy. His stutter-stepped playing style, dropping in notes in places that you don't expect, and holding back on notes in the places you would expect, brings my ears to very, very happy places. Watching it happen live, man, what a thrill! Ordin

Pretty tough to start including jazz due to the sheer immensity of the repertoire.
However, Kind of Blue is an easy one to point out, perhaps the greatest jazz album ever. Maybe it would be easier to start a new topic on the 10 best jazz musicians ever. People like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stéphane Grappeli, Benny Goodman, Billy Holiday, Ella, Stan Getz and of course, Birdman.

Late to the party here but what a great topic!!! So where to go with it. I was in Haight-Ashbury during the Summer of Love and spent way too many nights at the Filmore. is it worth re-visiting? Maybe, maybe not. Tough choices!!! Here goes:
Greatful Dead: Workingman's Dead Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks The Beautiful South: Carry on up the Charts or Solid Bronze (for those who haven't heard them they sold more records in the UK than the Beatles) The Holmes Brothers: Simple Truths Paul Simon: Graceland Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon Stan Rogers: Home in Halifax Taj Mahal: De Old Folks at Home Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms The Beatles: Rubber Soul Right, wrong or indifferent, I wouldn't give up these albums!!!

Have you ever listened to the syndicated radio show "Live at the World Café" with David Dye? It has featured many singer songwriters including, Phair, Costello, Orton and Mann. |

I have not...yet. I'm a sucker for those singer/songwriters that have something to say. Recently discovered how great Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are!! I should add that I have been a faithful listener of WEQX since it began, and before that I listened to the fantastic WQBK when Lin Brehmer and Ellen McKinnen were driving the local music scene.
