Talking about bears. This was a captivating, hair-raising, grizzly account of a bear attack. I listened to it a couple of years ago on a solo trip:

Take the obvious precautions and you should have no worries about black bears in the ADKs.

Still, the best article I ever read about factual black bear attacks was in a mid-1970s issue of either Outdoor Life or Field & Stream called "Disney Beast or Man Killer." 40 years ago, but the events in that article still happened.

Meanwhile, if you want to be humored, read some of Patrick F. MacManus' camping stories.

2 days ago my wife was watering the flowers at the front of thehouse, and I was leaning on my car talking on the phone and this guy walks trough the yard. My English Setter went right after it staying between us and the bear, he literally bit at it's side. The bear was origionally between me and the jeep, the path in the grass is just inside the inground fence Jack has worn a path just inside the fence.
