Was just up in the St Regis area camping, and saw quite a few. Always a thrill to see them, but the pair of loons on St Regis Pond who had a marital scream-fest at 3:30AM were not as well appreciated.

Yes, and no...

The lake itself is in two counties, Essex and Warren. The hamlet of Schroon Lake is entirely in Essex...and the town of Schroon borders the town of Pottersville at the county line.

It has a hard keel, so I imagine it's related to exactly what you say about being under pressure, and showing a slight bulge along the centerline. I think with the hard keel it'll track well enough...
