Same here, hiked it in Feb, could drive just beyond the TH but then had to park over 1/2 mile plus before the TH in the plowed lot. Should be able to reach and park at TH currently.

Hiked Buck from Pilot Knob on April 4. Large parking area not full
All day and a fantastic dry hike. Definitely the way to go and spent about an hour just hanging on the ledges after summiting.

what's the best winter parking for Buck? The Hogstown large lot? Or the lot a bit down the road towards the lake, nearer to the Buck trailhead? Is just the Dacy Clearing lot closed in...

Yes, adding that no issues for those properly parked in the marked lot (the dam side of the bridge) At least 2 sites, yes legal, and yes first come first served.
