Just a few years ago, we hopped out of our boat to stretch in the Tongue Mountain area of Lake George. Within 2 min we saw 3. This was near some boat access cottages. They do like to be near water.

I’ve also dropped the seat down several inches changed the Thwart positions And made my own carry thwart. The plastic is very slippery on beaver dams and rocks.

Wonderful report, nice description to remind me of those trails. I climbed Allan in 1992 via your Elk lake trail. My final 46er and my buddy's first. Epic bushwhack. No swamp boardwalk.
