Also the length seems to be described as short as 3.25 miles and as long as 4 miles. Interestingly, I wasn't able to find any mention of this trail in the North Flow book.

I am working on a new portage system for our kayaks, so this decision is dependent on how well that works out. Will know in a few days.
Chair Rock to Grassy carry, last I was there (several years ago), was basically a hiking trail cleared of overgrowth with 2 or 3 sizeable trees across it (blowdown). Conditions can vary, weather being fairly dry should help with stream crossings and wet spots, maybe someone can give you a report on trail clearing/maintenance. Be prepared to spend at least 2-3 hours if you single carry and have good footwear (sandals or water shoes aren't going to cut it, esp on the descent to Grassy)

It's a beautiful mature forest along the carry, if you have the time take some breaks and poke around.
Feverishly avoiding "a steady stream of humanity, with a view that offers little more than butts, boots, elbows and backsides". (description quote from Joe Hackett)
