Cabin

Looking to rent a very rustic cabin/camp near a brook or lake. Only want a nice stone fireplace for end of day enjoyment. Hoping to spend 2 nights with son and his best friend pre my son's wedding. Hike all day - steak for dinner and relax by the fire. Has to be old and realistic - no frills, no TV just a rustic, welcoming place to stay and swap stories of the great outdoors.

White Pine Camp, the Hermit's Hut fits the bill. I've stayed there a couple of times.

Looks like a nice place but it's rented far in advance.

Murphy Lake Lean-to!!

Very rustic near a lake...
Nice stone fireplace...
2 nights okay without permit...
Steak for dinner and potatoes in the fire...
Old and as real as it gets....
No TV....
So it's a cabin except for one wall eh...

Good luck out there!

As a good intermediary between lean-to camping and front country cabin rentals, you might look into renting one of the cabins at the Johns Brook Lodge property. It's an easy 3 mile hike in to the property, with plenty of excellent hiking in the vicinity. Not sure about fires- it's private property, so it's not subject to the fire ban in the Eastern High Peaks, but I'm not sure if the Adirondack Mountain Club (which owns/manages the property) allows fires or not.
