What happened in Saranac?
Does anyone know why/when the Eat 'n Meet Grill and larder closed?
Did the owners open up elsewhere? Granted, the place was not everyones cup of tea but if you wanted a fabulous meal for a fair price with no frills..it was the place to go.. ![]() |

Casa re-opened a few years ago, seems to be doing a steady business.
Folks were definitely sad to see eat n meet close. The former owner has been "hosted" for a night by some other local places, like Origin Coffee here in SL (great place btw, check it out!)

It was the best Mexican food back in the late 70's and then after that head over to G.A.G.S..

Haven't been to Casa in a while, but their facebook page has recent reviews. Says they open today at 4:00 PM. Always liked their food, especially the burritos.

I didn't realize they'd re-opened. If you're in Saratoga there are some great Mexican spots. Our favorite is El Mexicano.

Come to think of it, @1985 we stayed at the Newcomb Inn, a roadhouse with great cheap lodging and music.
Any update on this place appreciated. Is it now the Newcomb House-? |

I assume you meant Saranac Lake, not Saranac. I didn't realize Casa del Sol was closed; when I drove by it a couple of days ago, I thought it was just shuttered for the pandemic.

The Newcomb House closed. The Lake Harris House opened recently, I've not eaten there I've heard it's good but a bit pricey. There is also a new cafe open in Newcomb for breakfast and lunch, I have gotten breakfast there and it was quite good.
FWIW, I was told by one of the staff once at the Eat N' Meet that the owner of Jake Moon Cafe in Clarksville, NY (just outside Albany) served as a mentor of sorts to John Vargo (the owner of Eat N' Meet). She said he basically taught John how to cook. ![]() Last edited by DSettahr; 09-17-2020 at 12:52 PM.. |
