they make underquilts that go under the hammock and are usually made of down or some type of synthetic material. People have taken them down into the negative 20's. I put the 12 hour hand warmers in my boots and haven't had a problem with them freezing. check out hammockforums.net and there is page upon page of info for winter hammocking. I've only been down to around 18* but I was nice and warm.
