Question Powley-Piseco Rd

Hello All,

Does anyone know if Powley-Piseco Rd has been repaired and open to cars? I want to go for a bike ride up there and I was wondering how much damage was done during the big storm last Fall and if it has been repaired. Even if it's still closed to cars, can I get through on a bike? I couldn't find current info on the DEC site. Thanks.

Kathy

It was open for snowmobiles so I would think biking would be fine

i was up there last week, the road is closed to cars at the south end at the 1st bridge over the E. Canada Creek. you can park and hike/bike across the bridge tho. at the north it is closed about 1/4 mile in by a big log chain, but once again, you can park and hike/bike in. the Brayhouse Creek bridge by potholers was wiped out, if the water is high, might be tricky to cross. otherwise the road should be fine for hiker/bikers. i'd be interested to see what the powley place bridge looks like tho...

let us know how you make out. Did the loop from Stratford, across 29A, up rt. 10 then back on Powley Piseco Road a couple years ago.

Would like to do again.

Conditions on Powlely-Piseco Rd

Hello All,

I took my dog and my bike to explore the Powley-Piseco Rd today. We have been there many times before. We started at the southern end, a the bridge where the pavement ends. We only went up to Powley Place and turned around. The road is in pretty bad shape and won't be opening to vehicles anytime soon. There are extensive washed out areas. I am a fat, old, novice gravel biker and the road surface was quiet soft even in the good places. I had to do a fair amt of hike-a-bike. I brought my hybrid bike (Trek FX 7.2). I probably would have been better off with my mtb because it has much wider, beefier tires. I'm sure a fitter person wouldn't have had that much trouble. The area at Potholers, where the big culvert is located, has had some work done. There's some big stone that has been laid down, so I was able to get across it. A Town of Arietta crew was working on the road up near Powley Place. They dropped a load of stone while I was there and were grading it. The bugs weren't too bad. They swarmed around a bit when I stopped but they weren't biting. I expected them to be much worse. We had a nice outing, in spite of the road difficulties. I have included pics of the road surface at Potholers (looking South) and the new bridge at Powley Place from the water.

Thanks for the pix! Anyone know if the Bray House Falls (potholers) can be reached from the N end? Sounds like the S end has some work to do from the Oct flood.

Talked to Stratford Town Clerk this morning and she said the road should be open by the end of September. Just in time for my yearly leaf peeping rides!
