  • Forum Feline Experts: Bobcat Or Lynx?

This was posted in another thread, but didn't get much discussion.

Zoo staff says lynx while DEC says bobcat.

Who do you think is correct?

It's a hybrid. It also easy to see why it didn't get much discussion.

Very hard to tell, but if I had to guess from the photos I'd say Lynx from the relative size of rear legs. One was also recently confirmed in VT, and I'm pretty sure I saw one a couple of winters ago in the Northeast Kingdon in VT, I was quite startled by its sudden appearance! I don't see the white tail tip the DEC guy is talking about but those photos on TV are tough to make out.

        Hard to tell.
DEC made a failed attempt to re- introduce the Lynx to the ADK's about 20 years ago.

If you go by the probability of making a sighting you would have to go with Bobcat.

            Me thinx Lynx as well.

Could be the same one that was in Vermont recently. If I remember correctly it was southern Vermont, but not sure.

So it could be the missing Lynx?

Sadly, most of the Lynx that were planted in the ADK's ended up in someones chicken house.
