Drove by Chapel Pond yesterday. That thing is stubborn! Still 90% iced over, only a little open water at the "beach" end. Maybe today's warm rain will push it along...

Wow Justin, now I am really sad.
But I am going to make that my desktop image so I can day-dream on it. Is that Oxshoe? Thanks for posting.

I'm not sad, but I am definitely jealous!

Heart Pond. Designated tent site on the east shore.

How did you like that site, Justin? It's small (room for one tent as I recall) but otherwise nice. I always meant to plan a night there but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Bear Pond also has a nice designated tent site on the south shore. If you poke around near the campsite there's an old foundation pretty close by.

Boy, can’t get anything past you haha!
I liked it. It was a bit breezy with the northern winds coming in but it warmed up as the day progressed. It was actually my plan B. I made a big rookie mistake and got about an hour into my hike on my way to someplace else when I stopped to have a smoke break when I realized I left my lighter in the truck. I searched my pack and even my spare lighter & emergency matches were also missing. Not wanting to rely entirely on my flint firestick or Swiss Army magnifying glass or making a bow drill in order to grill up my chicken dinner later, I decided to turn around and hike back to Heart Pond and base camp it from there and close enough to walk back to my truck for my lighter. The trout was caught at a different pond nearby, not Bear but I have camped there many years ago, but somehow never noticed the foundation. I’ll have to do a re-visit sometime soon.

So Chapel Pond was finally going out yesterday; by noon it was down to about 40% ice coverage.
