Horseshoe Lake maple syrup industry / artifacts
Is there any maps and information on the horseshoe lake town? Fire took out that region but it would be interesting to know what was where. Artifacts is the lake maybe?

Not far away, A. A. Low had a thriving maple industry. you can still see the remains of the evaporator building with a white marble floor still intact, as well as other structures, somewhat removed from the other familar family ruins still seen at Lows Lake upper dam.

Thosw bronze markers got fewer & fewer over the course of the years to the point where, as you've noted, they're all gone. My guess is some unthinking individual thought it was more important for them to have a souvenir than it was to leave them alone for everyone else to see. So much for LNT...
That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well. snapper |

Yesterday I visited the Tri-County Marker in a bushwhack off the Oswegatchie traverse trail, west of Lows Lake. I came prepared with a tube of silicone cement because a number of years ago an old scouter(aka "Marmaduke") familiar with the area and with me, gave me a brass plaque for one of the counties that had fallen off. Rather than let it be stolen he gave it to me because he knew that I had been there prior to that and would return again one day as I use the location as a student guide M&C navigation training challenge. So I took a tube of sealant and replaced it at my next opportunity a year or so later. I am happy to report that as of yesterday it is still firmly in place, and no others have dropped off from the steel post they are attached to either.
