it looks like it's next to a rise, so I'm going to guess Irene happened to it. Colden area?

I want to say it's the Cedar Point Lean-to, which was relocated across the lake this summer. But it also looks like there is a huge boulder in front of the lean-to, which doesn't match Cedar Point. It's a bit difficult to tell from the photo, though, if that is actually a boulder or just a trick of the black and white imagery/low resolution.

I had to lower the resolution in order to post. Sorry! The leanto no longer exists and was unique in that it had a cliff right in front of the entrance. There is also an erratic boulder on top of the cliff, somewhat discernible in the photo. This may help people recognize where this was...a popular section of the High Peaks...

Hint: To have gotten to this leanto you would have crossed this bridge (back when it looked like this...)

Obviously Avalanche Lake. Was there ever a lean-to there? If not, I would surmise that it was the Caribou Lean-to, which was formerly located at the north end of Lake Colden.

The leanto in the photo was the original Caribou Leanto. Caribou 2 was a later replacement built nearer Lake Colden. The original Caribou was located 1 minute from the outlet bridge of Avalanche Lake on the current herd trail towards the Trap Dyke. Anyone that's done the Trap Dyke would recognize that location as they scramble down the left side of that cliff. The erratic is visible from most open places on the trail along Avalanche Lake as one looks towards the outlet. The great slide of Sept 26th, 1942 filled in much of the trail and pass between Lake Colden and Avalanche and blocked the outlet stream of Avalanche. The lake rose 8 feet and was impassable. The first party upon the scene (they made a raft of the destroyed Hitch-Up-Matilda and paddled the lake) reported that only the peak of the roof was showing of the leanto above the water. The next week the roof was seen floating in the lake. Leanto remains still exist at the base of that little cliff...The lake is still deeper today than before that massive landslide as the leanto photo shows land/trees in the foreground where water is today...
