W Sacandaga/Chub Pond

well, after trying twice to hike in, a friend and i decided to try kayaking into Chub Pond from W Sacandaga River. the water was pretty low, but other than 1 beaver dam, pretty easy. we put in on Rt 10 at the Goodluck Lake and Cliffs parking lot. paddled down the Sac about a 1/4 mile, found the channel to Chub blocked by a beaver dam about 3' high, easy to get around tho. put in on the other side, and paddled thru a very narrow channel to Chub, totally worth the effort! 2 nice campsites, a nice creek flowing in you can paddle up a bit, some pitcher plants, no loons tho! huge boulder on one side, perfect for lunch. paddled around a bit, ate our lunch, didn't see or hear another soul. we plan on a fall kayak/camping trip...

So. You tried twice unsuccessfully to hike in? Were you blocked by beaver activity? Ive never seen that trail hard to follow, I was last on it last fall. Starts from the grassy area just south of the bridge, about 3-400 yds

1st time it was flooded, and it was late, 2nd was winter, and we tho't we could cross the ice, but ran into some hunters just getting started, so decided to leave 'em alone.
